Why Reggie Bush's best years are ahead of, and not 'behind' him

February 7, 2010 by stevek173
A lot of people look ar Reggie Bush and see a faiure as an NFL player.

Sure he's had some of the most exciting NFL plays you will ever see, but as far as beig a steady contributor for the Saints he has never come close to what the hype coming out of USC billed him to be, and as much maligned as the Texans were for taking Mario Williams over him, in hindsight it looks like they made the right call so far.

I'm here to tell you, the jury should not be out on this one yet.

Shark attack! Get on San Jose -1.5 (+160) hosting Detroit tonight

We popped a nice ticket last night as Texas finally realized they have some talent and took over the 2nd half of the game in Oklahoma State. Sloppy game, I don't think Texas is very good and I will be staying away from them versus any really good teams. Regardless, nice 9 unit uptick in the roll let's keep rollin along.

Sloppy game, I don't think Texas is very good and wi be staying away form them versus and really good teams. Regardless, nice 9 unit uptick in the roll let's keep rollin along.

Tonight we wead out once again to the San Jose for some NHL hockey. My bias lately is first to look at the scorching Washington Capitals, but with Green out and with the way they gave up those 2 quick goals the other night towards te end of the game I'm going to wait until he comes back (and probably until they are at home as well).

Boy, those Red Wings teams were someting in the past weren't they? Nick Lidstrom in his prime dominating play, Chris Chelios, Stevie Y, basically they were unstoppaple for such a long time. If you wanted any chance at competing for the cup you had better be willing to take on the Wings when the chips were on the table and more often than not as we all know that ended the season of that unfortunate team.

That's the past tough, and this Wings team in no way resembles one of those.

They are a little bit above average, and that's about it. After getting off to a horrid start tis year tey have gotten a spark from rookie goaltender Jimmy Howard and have played better, currently tied for the last playoff spot in the West. Here's a disturbing stat tough - 142 goals for, 147 against? How do they still have a record of 26-19-10? I have no idea (must be win by 1 goal specialists and just not show up some games), but I can tell you that this is not a great team.

Let's talk about the San Jose Sharks. Currently leading the NHL with 81 points, pick your poison when playing them as they have outstanding records both home and away. Road teams face a Sharks team that is 19-4-7 at home this year the games more often than not are not close. In their last 10 games the Sharks are 8-0-2 overall. Just one of those wins was within one goal. That means in their last 10 the result has been the Sharks outscoring their opponent by 2 or more goals 7 times. In their last 7 home contests they have destroyed their opponents by a disgusting ratio of 30-14.See were I'm going with this?

Detroit's not bad on the road, posting a respectable 11-11-6 record away from home ice. San Jose, however, excluding  a game vs Chicago in which they didn't come out ready to play, is on fire at home, and it's too much for the Wings to overcome tonight.

Let's check out special teams.

San Jose is outstanding on both ends, as their power play converts 22.9% good enough for 3rd in the NHL, and they make killing off penalties an art as their NHL leading penalty killing unit kills off penalties at a remarkable 87.3%.

Detroit's special teams just aren't very good as their power play borders on anemic lighting the lamp just 17.6% of the time good enough for only 20th in the NHL and their penalty killing unit succeeds just 81.2% of the time good enough for just 17th in the league.

It's a shark attack tonight in the tank fellas. The waters wil be red and San Jose will keep cruising at home.

Let's hit an oh so sexy +160 price giving the 1.5 goals.

As always best of luck today fellas, take it down.

NCAA Hoops: Texas (-2) at Oklahoma State is the play today

Tough one yesterday as the Caps took some dumb penalties and missed a couple empty net tries as they defeated the Lightning 3-2 but failed to cover for us. We've had a great couple of weeks though.

Let's head out for some NCAA hoops tonight as Oklahoma State plays host to a reeling Texas team.

A lot of people are jumping off of the Texas Longhorn bandwagon right about now. After a widely publicized 17-0 start and a #1 ranking, they have gone on to lose 3 of their last 4 games, including a recent 80-77 home loss at the hands of a potent Baylor team. Yes they were never a good as their #1 ranking, but clearly they outclass Oklahoma State.

A couple of Tulsa's losses really stick out to me. Sure Tulsa is pretty strong this year and it was on their home court but 86-65 to them? Are you serious? The more recent stinker for Oklahoma State is a putrid 95-80 loss at the hands of Missouri. Clearly this is a team that some nights is just not competitive.

One thing you know with the Longhorns is they will show up to play. Even in their 3 recent loses to Kansas, UConn and Baylor, they were in every one of those games until the end. Each one of those teams easily outclasses Oklahoma any day of the week as well.

Sure Oklahoma State is unbeaten at home and that might scare you. That 81-52 score over Texas Tech might scare you because you see that Tech was ranked #22 at the time. Well let me enlighten you by telling you that Tech is still winless in conference play on the road.

On defense the stats are similar as Texas has allowed 67.5 pts per game with State allowing just 65.9, but on offense the Horns are clearly more powerful as they average 85.3 pts per game with State at just 74.9. Add the fact that Texas has clearly played a much tougher out of conference schedule, again averaging a potent 85.3 pts per game.

Conclusion? No truy legit wins for Oklahoma State. Some recent losses for Texas yes, but by far a much more explosive offense and much better competition. Point Guard Roy Penn is also injured for the Cowboys. With all this being said -2 is a joke, the Longhorns win this likely by double digits. I'd get on it quickly as I see it is now -2.5 at one book.

Let's go with our standard 10 units on the Horns, -2 (-110).

No Green, no problem. Get on the red hot Caps (-1.5) +105 AGAIN

January 31, 2010 by stevek173
Well fellas another winner last night as the Sharks responded and dominated the Wild in the 3rd period last night en route to a 5-2 victory and a 14 unit uptick in our roll.

They say if it ain't broke, don't fix it right? We have been riding the scorching Capitals the past few weeks as they have been reaping havoc on any teams unfortunate enough to have to face them this month. Let's go back for more of the same as they play host to an average Tampa Bay team that stinks on the road.

Let's go back for more of the same as they play host to a weak Tampa Bay team.

The stats are overwhelmingly in our favor.

Home record for the caps: 20-3-3 on the season, 8-0 in the month of January with a goals for/ goals against ratio of 36-14. Just disgusting. Tampa Bay on the road? Tocchey Hockey's boys are home ice specialists as they are 2 games above .500 on the year at 22-20-11 with a home record of 14-6-6 but are bad when they don't have their home town food at 8-14-5. Kodus to Philly favorite Rick Tocchet on a nice job so far having this team winning more than half of their games on the season. Tough spot here though, you just gotta take your lumps sometimes as a coach.

As we dicussed previously the Caps can be shaky sometimes when playing on back to back nights, no worries about that here. As their last effort was a 4-1 domination of Florida on the 29th.

On special teams, the Caps have the well documented #1 Power Play unit in the NHL, lighting the lamp a league leading 26.2% of the time. Tampa is not very good at killing penalties, ranked 24th in the league at 79.6%. This could get ugly quick.

Tampa Bay has a decent powerplay at 19.4% good enough for 9th in the NHL, and Washington's PK unit succeeds 80.8% of the time good enough for 18th in the league. This looks pretty good for Tampa, but the gap between Washington's PP Unit and Tampa's is just huge.

This happens a lot when you have the league's best unit.

It's good to be diverse when making plays, having a good feel for all major sports and being able to find the best picks on any given night. At the same time, sometimes it just isn't rocket science. As I have discussed many times the talent pool among the elite teams in the NHL is at a much higher level than the average to below average teams. Therefore this is a good season to ride the goal lines in many of these matchups. This is a perfect example.

I had bumped my Capitals home ice plays to 15 units, but with Green out (suspended 3 games for an elbow) let's go with our standard 10.

As always best of luck today fellas, take it down.

Get on the San Jose Sharks -1.5 Goals (+140) tonight

January 30, 2010 by stevek173
We were able to sit back and relax last night as the Caps, to no surprise, remained en fuego and dismantled the Panthers en route to paying us on our 15 unit play.

That's a 17.25 uptick in the roll fellas. Let's make a note to keep an eye on the Mike Green situation out there as he got banged up and is an essential cog in the Capitas' machine.

Let's head out to the Shark Tank tonight as the San Jose Sharks play host to the Minnesota Wild.
